China's tea export in August 2020

In 2020, exports fell for the first time for two months in a row. 

According to Chinese customs statistics, in August 2020, China's tea exports were 28400 tons, down 20.44% from the same period last year. (note: this is the first consecutive two-month decline in China's tea exports in 2020); exports were US $176 million, down 11.29% from the same period last year; the average export price was US $6.19kg, an increase of 11.51% over the same period last year. 

From January to August 2020, China's cumulative tea exports were 234000 tons, down 4.68 percent from the same period last year; cumulative exports were 1.38 billion US dollars, up 5.05 percent from the same period last year; and the average export price was 5.90 US dollars per kilogram, up 10.21 percent from the same period last year. 

Take a look at the category of tea. From January to August 2020, with the exception of Pu'er tea, the export volume of other kinds of tea decreased by different degrees. Specifically, from January to August, China's green tea exports were 197000 tons, accounting for 84.1% of the total exports, a decrease of 8121 tons, a decrease of 4.0%; black tea exports were 19200 tons, accounting for 8.2% of the total exports, a decrease of 3328 tons, or 14.8%; oolong tea exports were 11900 tons, accounting for 5.1% of the total exports, a decrease of 308 tons, a decrease of 2.5%. The export volume of scented tea was 4075 tons, accounting for 1.7 percent of the total exports, a decrease of 40 tons, or 1.0 percent, while the export volume of Pu'er tea was 2132 tons, accounting for 0.9 percent of the total exports, an increase of 305 tons, or 16.7 percent.
